The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has disclosed that not less than 30, 000 people living with Human Immuno Deficiency Virus (HIV) in Gombe state are currently on medication.

North east zonal coordinator of the agency Tobias John made the disclosure yesterday in an interview with newsmen where he stated that the sum of over N1.6 billion is being spent annually on the medication.

According to him, by the year 2023, the donor organisations would leave and the state government should shoulder the responsibilities.

He said already the federal government has enrolled 50, 000 people living with HIV in the program to continue receiving treatment in two states of Abia and Taraba states. He said they want the number to increase and spread it to other states.

Also said each person living with the virus is spending fifty thousand naira on him annually, and if you calculate fifty thousand naira times the total number of 33, 000 people it’s arive at 1.6 biilion naira, therefore each state has people living with the disease not only the Gombe state.

Tobais, said the challenges faces are equipment more especially the tasting kits, becouse each person will have suppose to tested every three months and for the commercial sex workers or prostitutes needs to be treated every month.

By doing so the total amount spent yearly will be more than that, so by the year 2023 if the donor pertners quits is the government ready to take care, even though federal government start enrolling some numbers that they questions.
