3 Killed, 40 Houses Affected In Niger Explosion

Three persons were killed at an explosion in Sabon-Pegi in Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State.  

Information made available to AljazirahNigeria in Minna by the Director-General of Niger State Emergency Management Agency, NSEMA, Alhaji Abdullahi Arah, said the incident occurred at about 7:30am on January 26.

According to the report, the explosion was caused by a dynamite popularly known as Nakiya explosive, which was kept in a rented apartment by one Yushehu, a local 

miner.

The apartment, which is located behind the Central Mosque in Sabon-Pegi,

was rented by Yushehu for his workers, while he resides at New Bussa, headquarters of Borgu Local Government Area.

The report added that three lives were lost, which includes one boy, a man and a woman with several others injured, while over 40 houses were affected, including parked vehicles. 

It was gathered that some injured persons are receiving treatment at New Bussa General Hospital.

The director-general, however, said NSEMA desk officers of Mashegu and Borgu Local Government Areas, who coordinated the rescue operations, were still at the scene of the incident to undertake a comprehensive report.
