A 23-year-old apprentice, Jonathan Emmanuel, has been electrocuted at a welding workshop in Asimolowo area of Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Omolola Odutola confirmed this to newsmen in a statement yesterday in Abeokuta.
Odutola said three persons had been arrested in connection with the incident.
The are: Oladokun Johnson( the welder); Azeez Salami (truck driver) and Olaleye Kamaldeen (truck owner).
The deceased’s father, Mr Emmanuel Abah, had approached Ifo Divisional Police Headquarters on Thursday at about 6:30pm to report the incident.
He reported that he received information from Salami and the deceased’s master about his son’s electrocution.
The Police PRO said immediately after receiving the report, police officers were drafted to visit the scene to evacuate the deceased to General Hospital, where the doctor confirmed himBrought In Dead, BID.
She said investigation revealed that Johnson, the welder, was working on a container at his workshop, using a welding machine with an exposed live wire, when Kamaldeen, the owner of an Iveco truck (Reg. No. T 7146 LA, Lagos), arrived with a mini bus carrying ten truck rims for offloading.
Odutola explained that while Salami (truck driver), Kamaldeen (truck owner)and Emmanuel (victim) were rolling the rims towards the truck, one of the rims came into contact with the exposed wire, resulting in the victim’s immediate electrocution.
She said the police had recovered the welding machine and exposed wire as exhibits. The welder, truck owner and driver have been arrested and are currently in custody, as investigations continue.
The police image maker noted that the case will be transferred to the SCID for further investigation and possible prosecution.
