Nigeria Gymnastics Federation, NGF, has concluded plans to ensure Enor Obong- Etim and Ene Theresa Apochi lead the senior team in the world cup championship preparation for the All Africa Games, commonwealth Games as well as the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, United States of America, USA, in 2028.
Both gymnastics stars, Obong- Etim who represented Edo State won for gold medals for the state and Apochi who represented Delta State won five gold medals from her state in the just concluded National Sports Festival, NSF, tagged 2024 Gateway Game.
The Chief Jury of Nigeria Gymnastics Federation and a member of Union Africa de Gymnastics, UAG, Mr. Alexander Otasowie Erhumwunse made this known on Tuesday, while responding to the duo’s performance at the end of the two weeks Gateway Games.
He described Obong- Etim as the king of artistic men gymnastics who is already performing the Olympic elements on vault and floor exercise while Apochi with her athletic talent especially at the 2024 Gateway Games, made the duo qualifier for the 2028 Olympics game in Los Angeles.
Alexander , however said that the President of NGF, Prince Ehizogie Kelvin Erhumwunse has pledged to take action to build on the success of the federation’s grassroots program, with the ultimate goal of making gymnastics a top sport in Nigeria.
He said “Nigeria Gymnastics Federation first the time went on line streaming every events that took place at National Sport Festival tagged Ogun 2024, it was wholesome and mind blowing as a lot of records were broken. It was nice to see Enor Obong-Etim, the king of Men Artisics winning 4 gold medals in the men category in preparation for 2028 Olympics.
“Another beautiful thing that happened is athe young lady Ene Theresa Apochi, she was sensational winning 5 gold medals for Delta State. It’s clear and interesting to know how the Secretary General ôíand president are overwhelm with their performance he federation had made up its mind to push these two young lads to lead the senior team in the men’s and women category preparing them with all the championships and making them get all their scores in other championship so that they can meet up with the 2028 Olympics coming up in the USA.
“The President of Nigeria Gymnastics Federation Prince Ehizogie Kelvin Erhumwunse has vowed to take action in making sure that his grassroots programme of the federation continues to gain mastery as gymnastics become tops in Nigeria. The outcome of the festival was vary impressive as some gymnastics has been selected to represent Nigeria in the three major discipline in the coming months”, he added.
