2027: APGA Adopts Tinubu As Strategies Heat Up

All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has adopted President Bola Tinubu as the party’s standard bearer ahead of the 2027 presidential election thereby strengthening indications that Tinubu will seek re-election.

It would be recalled that in 2011 APGA adopted former President, Goodluck Jonathan, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as its presidential candidate ahead of that year’s election.

Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, announced this yesterday during a reception organised in honour of Tinubu

AljazirahNigeria reports that the president who visited the state to commission some projects is a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Soludo, while giving rationale for the adoption of Tinubu as APGA presidential candidate, recalled that

“In 2011, before I joined the APGA in 2013, APGA took an official position to support and work with the political party and government at the centre”.

He went on to say that “Indeed, in that year, APGA adopted the sitting president then as its presidential candidate and I want to report that, that policy by APGA has not changed”.

Besides, the governor said APGA and the APC profess “progressivism”  and “Coincidentally Mr President, at this moment in history, the government at the centre is the one that also professes progressivism.

“As the foremost progressive party in Nigeria, APGA is strategically and ideologically aligned with the centre; APC-led federal government”.

The progressives, according to him are working well together.

The adoption of Tinubu as APGA’s presidential candidate came amid spiralling defections from the PDP to APC in recent times, concluding former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, who was vice presidential candidate to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in the 2023 presidential election.

Meanwhile, Soludo is poised to seek a re-election in November this year as the APGA gubernatorial candidate.
