2023: Warn Karshi Against Using Thugs During Elections, Group Tells FCT Minister

 By Ismaila Jimoh, Abuja

A civil society organisation under the umbrella of the Democratic Alliance for Good Governance (DAGG) has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Malam Muhammad Bello to call one Yakubu Karshi to order against using, allegedly, political thugs during elections.

Mr. Samuel Dagogo, national coordinator, and Alhassan Isah, secretary-general of the group in a press briefing, today, said that the impunity of Mr. Karshi to always coordinate political affairs of in FCT from wherever he is should be condemned.

According to the group, the self-acclaimed political god-father has always interfered in the political situation of the FCT, undermining the interest of the people who they want to lead, thereby ensuring that he installs his candidates in any position of his choice.

“That was how he singlehandedly interfered in the 2015 FCT elections and ensured that the outgoing chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Abdullahi Candido became chairman of the council against the interest of the people of AMAC.

“As observers during that election, we saw how he controlled his thugs and told them to snatch ballot boxes during the 2015 election. He also did it in the just concluded FCT elections in AMAC, were his thugs also snatched ballot boxes.

“We witnessed the dastardly acts committed by his thugs during the just concluded FCT elections, how they threatened and almost killed innocent Nigerians because their boss’ candidate must be elected.

“That is why we are calling on the minister to intervene and call him to order for him to stop interfering in the FCT election process because the 2023 election is fast approaching and we do not want a repeat of the last two scenarios in the forthcoming election,” the group stated.
