2023: I’ll Reclaim Nasarawa For PDP If Given The Ticket, Ex-minister, Maku Declares

By David Christopher, Lafia

A  gubernatorial aspirant in Nasarawa State under the umbrella of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Labaran Maku has stated that he decided to dump APGA for PDP based on the clarion calls he received from PDP stakeholders and well-wishers whom he saw seriousness in them to reclaim power from the APC-led government whose performances are very minimal in the state.

Maku who was a former deputy governor of the state and former minister of Information and Communication made the assertion in an exclusive interview with AljazirahNigeria, shortly after he held a meeting with PDP delegates at Keffi, yesterday said he returned to PDP for good, to clinch the party’s gubernatorial ticket and to subsequently win the main election.

He said, if he becomes the Party’s gubernatorial flag bearer he will defeat the incumbent governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule with ease at the general elections owing to the fact that the incumbent’s performances were nothing to be reckoned with.

According to him, all the two previous elections he contested for the said office in 2015 and 2019 under the umbrella of APGA he won, but powers that be at that time rigged the elections, though he challenged the results up to supreme Court.

“When you look at Nasarawa State you will agree with me that nothing is going on seriously. Even to manage traffic issues in Mararaban Gurku to Abuja road is a problem. The only project that was commissioned by APC government in the state is the Bus terminal at Mararaban Gurku all other projects were initiated when I was in government as PDP minister which shows that something is wrong.

“As I returned to PDP and if we win the coming elections we are going to develop the state. We want to show an example of leadership again. I believe that if the PDP ticket is given to me this party will win elections in 2023 unstoppable because as a single actor I was able to beat the ruling party in the state twice.

“So, what am looking for at the moment is the support of all the PDP stakeholders, members and well wishers  to enable us change the state in a positive affirmations.

“It will also interest you to note that in this state if anything is going wrong nobody says anything unless I speak, which means that there are no genuine opposition leaders that want to win elections. I have been criticizing the ruling government on behalf of all the opposition parties in the state and am hated for that, but the masses love me for it” Mr Maku stated.

Answering a question as regards how he could defeat his PDP co-contestant’s Hon. David Umbugadu and General Nuhu Angbazo  at the forthcoming primary election he said, “I am contesting alongside other two of my brothers in PDP which we are all qualifed on papers, but when it comes to experiences and preparations I believe by the grace of God I have an edge over them.

“I was a commissioner, deputy governor,  minister of both Information and Defence of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Before then I was a headmaster, classroom teacher, student union leader and also a journalist. So, with these accumulated experiences, I believe our party will do the needful during our primary election”.
