2023: Emmanuel  Canvasses Supports Of Ex-LG Officials With Terminal Benefits


Towards successful completion of his succession plans ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Akwa Ibom State Government has canvassed for the support of former elected officials of the 31  Local Government  Areas of the State including former Chairmen, Vice Chairmen and Councilors.

The Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs  flaged off the payment of severance emoluments including gratuities to third tier administrators, it was learnt at the weekend.

The flag off ceremony took place at the Council chambers of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Government House, Uyo, the State capital.

Addressing the beneficiaries, the Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs’ Commissioner, Hon. Frank Archibong, commended Governor  Emmanuel, “for demonstrating great zeal towards improving the welfare of Akwa Ibom people and human capacity building”.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Elder Ini Ikie, Archibong explained that the payment “is a continuous process and will accommodates all former Chairmen of Councils, Vice Chairmen and  Councillors, who served between 2017 and 2020”, adding that payment would be done in tranches.

He lauded them for their matured conduct, assuring the the process would be smooth, transparent and peaceful.

However, former Chairmen of Okobo, Hon. Ubuo Ubuo; Nsit Ubium, Hon. Udemeobong Bassey and that of Abak LGAs, Hon. Imoh Williams, who represented other Chairmen during the ceremony, expressed appreciation to the Governor, “for always keeping to his promise”, reiterating their resolve to support the completion agenda and succession plans in 2023.

Speaking on behalf of all the  Councilors, Mrs. Grace Itohowo, former leader Ibeno LGA Legislative Council and Hon Usen Bassey, from Nsit Ubium LGA, applauded Emmanuel for his pragmatic leadership style and acknowledged that “the Governor is a father with a big and accommodating heart”, and pledged  to effectively mobilize support for the PDP with total loyalty to the Governor.
