A group known as One Nigeria Group (ONG), has called on separatist movements and agitators, particularly the Yoruba Nation and IPOB, to sheathe their swords and allow peace to reign as the nation elects new leaders.
The President of ONG, Muhammad Hassan, while addressing pressmen at the 2023 general elections world press conference held in Abuja, urged Nigerians to tread the path of hope for good governance that the nation has been aspiring for.
“We call on separatist movements and agitators, particularly the Yoruba Nation and IPOB, to sheathe their swords and allow peace to reign as we go out to elect our leaders again
“we also urge everybody here today and all Nigerians to tread this path of hope for good governance that we have all been aspiring for,” he said.
According to him, the exercise will determine the fate of Nigerians in their yearnings for economic wellbeing, progress and prosperity.
He added that the election is very crucial to the future of the nation and the interests of the people.
“One Nigeria Group (ONG), a Non-Governmental Organisation and advocate of unity, peace and progress of our dear country, Nigeria, deemed it fit to put this programme together with a view to sensitising us on the need to tread the path of peace in the spirit of unity that we can not afford to compromise for any reason as the country embarks on this very important exercise.
He lamented that It is apparent that elections in Nigeria are usually fraught with violence and different kinds of misconducts that threaten the credibility of the exercise.
He warned that there is need for Nigerians to conduct themselves in civic manners marked by loyalty and respect for the rule of law to be able to achieve the purpose of electing the right leaders.
He called on the security agencies and personnel, particularly the Police, Army, Civil Defence, DSS etc to, as usual, conduct themselves in ways capable of guaranteeing peace and security before, during and after the elections.
The ONG president enjoined government at all levels to put all hands on deck to guarantee peace and security as well as a credible exercise to be able to sustain the country’s integrity and her Africa giant status in the comity of nations.
He advised that all Nigerians to come out enmasse to perform their civic responsibility to determine their fate in the democratic dispensation.
