2021 Nigeria Ladies Golf Tourney Tees Off In Abuja

The 2021 edition of  Nigeria Ladies Open Golf championship teed off on Thursday evening, at the prestigious IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja.


The three-day championship, which teed-off with fun, delight and excitement would be a fierce contest amongst the ladies golfers in different categories.


The Former Speaker of House of Representatives, Hon. Dogara Yakubu, during the official ceremonial  tee-off on Thursday in Abuja drummed support for Ladies golf in the country 

Rt Hon Dogara expressed that the championship will parades a lot of ladies golfers with high level of skills in the game.

“As the occasion glaringly demonstrates anything organised by our mothers and ladies are always wonderful. 

“This is an atmosphere we love to be, to support women and I guess that is what true men are built to shoulder women, to support them and make sure that they get to their full potentials.

“Anything a man can do, a woman can do better. So, this is something we thought only men can do better but we wait to see what will come out of it and that’s why I am here.”

He heaped praised on women golfers urged them to be careful during the game: “The golfers should be a bit careful. I have played against some of them, they’re terrific and bold. Sometimes, some of us believe it is all about power. But if you watched their swing, they’re very careful and more calculating in terms of precision. For lovers of golf, this should be cynosure of all eyes because a lot will be displayed here. Hopefully, we will join if they permit us.”

While speaking, the IBB international golf and country club ladies golf Captain, Mrs Mary Rose Richard Obioha, said the expectation is very high as new champion will emerge.

“We are expecting a lot of excitement, satisfaction and a champion that can be presented anywhere, anytime, any day from the ladies section. 

“The championship is dear to the heart of all the ladies because whoever becomes a champion remains the champion for the whole year, it’s very important to the IBB Golf and country club ladies, that is why you are seeing all of them coming out to beat the current and defending champion, Jummai Abdullahi, but unfortunately she is not here, a lot of people have been practising to beat her. She said.”

While giving the hints on the event, the IBB golf ladies country and club Secretary, Lizy Asomugha said all is set for the event. 

“We have a lot of beautiful prizes, courtesy of our ladies Captain, we have real crystal trophies and a lot of attachments that will make our Ladies happy at the end of the tournament.

“We have different categories: 0-18, 19-36 up to 6 places and this is the first time we are going to have prizes for all categories.

“The veterans, 70 years and above, have special packages, if they can come to play, we need to put smile on their faces. She said.”

Meanwhile, this year’s game format will be only 18 holes for veterans 60 years and above, and also to the super Veterans 70 years and above. 

Also, Veterans and Super Veterans will slug it out on Friday, while Amateurs will play on two days, Friday and Saturday respectively. 

However, the event will be climaxed on Saturday with prize presentation.
