At least 15 persons have been confirmed dead in a road crash on Funtua-Gusau road in Funtua Local Government Areas of Katsina State.
The Katsina State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, confirmed the accident in a statement on Saturday.
The state FRSC sector commander, Mr Aliyu Ma’aji, who confirmed this through the command’s public relations officer, Mr Shamsudeen Babajo, said the accident involved a Toyota Hiace and a truck.
Ma’aji, who disclosed that the crash was as a result of a tyre bust from the Toyota mini van, leading to a loss of control and a head-on collision, added that 15 persons died in the accident while 13 others sustained various degrees of injuries.
The Sector Commander said that the victims were taken to Funtua General Hospital by the Corps of Funtua Unit Command patrol team.
Ma’aji called on motorists to always monitor the conditions of their tyres before embarking on a journey.
He urged them to avoid speeding, overloading, and reckless driving as part of measures to avert road accidents.
