West African Examinations Council, WAEC, has released the result of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE indicating that out of 1,805,216 that sat for the examination, 1,332,089 candidates have credits in five subjects including any subjects with either Mathematics or English language.
It added that 1,301, 949 candidates got credits in five subjects including Mathematics and English language accounting for 72.9% of the total candidates.
WAEC disclosed this in a post on X (formerly Twitter), on Monday, saying it is pleased to inform candidates who sat for WASSCE that the result has officially been released.
A statement by its Head in Nigeria, Amos Dangut, said this year’s WASSCE which was the first since he assumed office was a success.
Dangut said, “the conduct of WASSCE for school candidates, the first conducted under my administration, was a huge success. Meanwhile, after my assumption of office, WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2023-Second Series and the novel computer-based WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2024-First Series were successfully conducted”.
He stated that the results of 1,685,889 candidates, accounting for 93.9 percent were released.
Dangut added that although insecurity hampered the conduct of the examination in different areas of the country, 1,805, 216 candidates registered for WASSCE.
“WAEC is releasing its results today. Out of the 1,805, 216 that entered for the examination, 1,332,089 candidates have credits in five subjects including any subjects with either Mathematics or English language and 1,301,949 candidates got credit in five subjects including Mathematics and English, accounting for 72.9% of the total candidates.
“This is a 7.6 per cent decrease in examination performance compared to last year. Also 215,267 results were withheld due to examination malpractice. This accounts for 11.92% of the total number of candidates who wrote the examination”, Dangut said.
