1 Dies, As Truck, Motorcycle Collide In Lagos

Date:

Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, said the driver of a truck escaped after his truck and a commercial motorcyclist collided in Apapa area.

The accident led to the death of the motorcyclist, while passengers were injured.

General Manager, LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki disclosed this in a statement yesterday in Lagos.

Bakare-Oki was quoted in the statement signed by Mr Taofiq Adebayo of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, as saying that the motorcyclist died while his female passenger was injured.

According to Bakare-Oki, the fatal accident involving the commercial motorcyclist (okada rider) and a Dangote truck took place yesterday at Area B, near Point Road, heading towards Airways, Apapa.

“LASTMA officials quickly intervened, rescuing the severely injured passenger and rushed her to Apapa General Hospital for urgent medical attention,” he said.

He noted that both the truck driver and his assistant fled the scene, abandoning the truck.

The LASTMA boss said in coordination with Area B Police Station, officers of the agency removed the truck and handed it over to the police for further investigation.

He cautioned truck drivers against reckless driving by obeying speed limits and ensure that their vehicles undergo regular maintenance.

He also called on commercial motorcyclists to desist from using prohibited routes, including highways and bridges across the state.

Bakare-Oki stressed the importance of strict adherence to traffic regulations by all road users to prevent tragedies of this nature.

While extending his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased motorcyclist, the general manager expressed hope for the swift recovery of the injured passenger. (NAN)
