Reasons why Buhari’s London doctor jettisoned already scheduled interview with AljazirahNigeria in London

By Gbenga Odunsi, Abuja

One of the medical physicians of President Buhari has cancelled an already scheduled interview with AljazirahNigeria.

It would be recalled that the physician, who is certified in Anatomic Pathology had in July revealed to our correspondent all medical issues surrounding Buhari’s health and the way forward.

The physician, who also pleaded for anonymity on his identity based on security reasons, told our reporter that he expect sound journalism practice in Nigeria.

“Sometimes when I checked Nigerian news online, I weep because of the many unprofessional reportage on news and analysis”, he said.

President Buhari had on several occasions travelled to London over health challenges.

On his last trip to London which he spent 103 days, Many Nigerians, both home and in diaspora held protests, demanding to know the real health condition of President Buhari.

It is against this backdrop that AljazirahNigeria contacted one of the medical personnel on the team treating Buhari, who later revealed that the president was doing well and may return any moment, adding that it is unprofessional for a recuperating Buhari to address Nigerians on his health issue.

The physician gave reasons for cancelling the scheduled interview with our correspondent. He insisted that he does not want further publicity on his client’s health as this may heat up the already tensed polity in Nigeria.

He further explained that is highly unethical to reveal or disclose the state of his client’s health condition without his consent, adding that the confidentiality of the treatment, and his status as the president does not permit disclosure of his ailment to the public.

He maintained that he only granted the first interview because of his respect for AljazirahNigeria, and to let Nigerian know that the President is medically fit.

“Professionally, it is unacceptable to disclose a client’s health status without his/her consent. My reasons for grating the first interview was because the political situation in Nigeria was unbecoming, and I felt it necessary to ease up the situation by revealing that my client is fit and set to return.

“Besides, my love and respect for AljazirahNigeria, their professional and unbiased reportage made me respond to your request for interview”, he added.

The London based physician added that since President Buhari has returned to Nigeria, further discussion on his health status is uncalled for, noting that Nigerians should continue to pray for the president as his good health is tantamount to the economic status of the country.

President Buhari arrived Nigeria, ending his 103 days medical trip in London. He has since then held meetings with opposition parties, stakeholders, as well as attended to many national issues, amongst others.
