Police Arrest Herbalist Over Death Of Lawmaker’s Wife

Police in Katsina State have arrested a woman who allegedly administered traditional concoctions on the late wife of a Katsina lawmaker.

Binta Safiyanu, the first wife of a member representing Musawa constituency in the Katsina State House of Assembly, Yunusa Idris Jikamshi, was said to have contacted the suspect for traditional medicine to assist the flow of her breast milk.

Safiyanu, a mother of six, was said to have recently delivered a set of twins.

Our reporter learnt that no sooner had Safiyanu taken the medicine last week Tuesday that she started vomiting and died about 10 minutes later. She was taken to Musawa General Hospital where she was confirmed dead and has since been buried.

The matter, which was first reported at Musawa police station, was thereafter transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Bureau for further investigation. Sources at the bureau confirmed that Sakina is being detained while another male suspect believed to be involved is being hunted.

The state’s police command spokesman, DSP Gambo Isah, confirmed the incident but said the matter was being investigated.
