How Mikel, Nwabuoku Voted In The Best FIFA Football Awards

Nigeria captain, John Obi Mikel voted for Cristiano Ronaldo in his shortlist for the Best FIFA Men’s Player 2016.

The Portuguese captain who scored 42 goals in 44 games in 2016 providing 14 assists won the inagural edition of the award amassing 34.54% ahead of Lionel Messi who finished second with 26.42% and Antoine Griezmann in third with 7.53%.

 Mikel who switched to Chinese side Tianjin TEDA from Chelsea last week, nominated Antoine Griezmann in second place while Manuel Neuer who made the FIFA FIPRO X1 was his third choice for the award.

He also picked Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri as his best coach of 2016, ahead of Fernando Santos and Zinedine Zidane. 

Mauricio Pochettino and Luis Enrique were the other candidates the Nigerian star picked.

Ranieri won the category with 22.06 % while Zidane and Santos polled 16.56% and 16.24% respectively. 

Interestingly, the pair of Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger did not receive a single vote for World Coach of the Year.

Meanwhile, Nigeria women national team captain, Evelyn Nwabuoku voted Ellis Jill in The Best FIFA Women’s Player 2016 category.

Jill came second behind winner Silvia Necid whose total votes represented 16.68 % votes. Pia Sundhage came third in the category.
