LMC Builds ‘Young’ Coaches’ Capacity As Curtain Falls On NPFL-La-Liga Clinic

By Joel Ajayi, Abuja

After days of training, the League Management Company, LMC, has called
on coaches with the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, to
re-assert themselves towards playing greater roles in the growth and
development of football in the country.
LMC Chairman, Shehu Dikko who gave the charge during the five-day
coaching clinic mainly for U-15 NPFL Coaches, put together by La-Liga
and LMC in Abuja underscored the need for more investment in the
training and re-training of grassroots coaches.
Dikko who doubles as the 2ndVice President of the Nigeria Football
Federation, NFF, added; “It is all about talents identification. It’s
about moulding the youths; it is the coaches that decide those players
that have potentials and capacity. Without Youth development there
will be no Messi, Ronaldo and other big players of the world today.
This is fundamental foundation of what we are trying to do.
“We are delighted that our work is already yielding positive result as
players are making it both in Europe and in Nigeria. And for us to
revive our football, we have to introduce the youth through this level
as much as possible because youth are the engine of football. There is
no head Coach that can succeed in any team without the youth coaches.
There for I charge you to go out there and exhibit what you have
learned in the course of this programme.”
La-liga Country Manager in Nigeria, Javier del Rio, saluted the
doggedness and spirit of commitment of Nigerian coaches while
acknowledging that LMC is doing a very good job towards improving
Nigerian football adding; “I’m sure that very soon Nigerian football
will get a lot of improvement.”
The coaching clinic which is the second of its kind after LMC and
La-Liga entered into crucial football development partnership designed
to train coaches on how to properly develop and manage young talents
using the Spanish philosophy and methodology.
The 2017 edition of the workshop had in attendance all 20 technical
advisers and head coaches of NPFL teams.
