Lawan topples Ndume as Senate leader250 views
Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus in the Senate have removed Ali Ndume as their leader.
The shocking development was conveyed by Senate President Bukola Saraki who read a letter sent to him by the members of the caucus.
The caucus subsequently replaced Mr. Ndume with Ahmed Lawan, the letter read by Mr. Saraki said.
Thus Ndume is no longer the Senate Leader.
Mr. Ndume told reporters after plenary that the decision of the caucus to remove him as leader shocked him.
Analysts says Ndume’s removal may be as a result of power play following the indictment of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, and the rejection of Ibrahim Magu as EFCC Chairman by the Senate.
AljazirahNigeria reports that Lawan used to be the Senate committee chairman on defence.
He was defeated at a keenly contested race by the incumbent, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki against party’s interest in 2015.
