African billionaire company, The Dangote Group may have reached an “agreement in principle” with the Nasarawa State Governor, Alhaji Umaru Tanko Al-Makura for its acting Group Managing Director of Sugar Refinery Plc, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, to succeed him in May 2019, AljazirahNigeria investigation reveals.
Investigations from Government House Lafia, the state capital confirmed that the deal has been causing ripples within the ranks of the ruling All Progressive Congress APC in the state.
According to reports, should Sule get the ruling party’s ticket, the selected local government chapters’ chairmen involved would get a whopping sum of an undisclosed cash and vehicles in addition to nomination in key portfolios in the next government.
A close source from the kitchen cabinet of Almakura, however, said the deal is not receiving the blessings of ex-governor, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu’s camp. The source informed that Adamu has his preference for the representative of Nasarawa at the House of Representatives, Architect Jafaru Isa instead. Isa’s preference is the outcome of a political deal agreed between the Adamu’s camp of the APC and the Ebira elements for the 2019 Senate of the Nasarawa West. Already, the former Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General under governor Adamu, Hon (Barr) Tanimu Adabson, is appointed to head the Keffi for Governorship Selection Quest.

The major task in the grand plan which is facing a stiffer opposition from both the Southern and Western blocks of the party with exception of Nasarawa and Karu local governments is to ensure that the ruling APC zoned its gubernatorial seat to the northern axis of the state. One of the conditions offered by Governor Al-Makura is for his longest-serving commissioner of Lands, Mr Sonny Aggasi to be fielded as running-mate ahead of former House of Representatives member, Hon Samuel Egya, believed to be the consensus running-mate of the Nasarawa caucus.
“The governor and some key officials and stakeholders of our party, APC have reached an agreement with the Dangote Group. They have indirectly zoned the party’s gubernatorial seat to Nasarawa-North to produce an astute engineer and an illustrious son of Nasarawa State, Alh. Abdullahi A. Sule, as flag-bearer and God’s willing successor to Governor Al-Makura,” a source told AljazirahNigeria.
The source also stated that internal measures have been put in place to checkmate unnecessary decamping amongst its members after the gubernatorial primaries. She, however, noted that the party has resolved to conduct a free, fair and credible exercise.
“A committee would be set-up before the 2018 primaries to checkmate unholy acts which are capable of wrecking any havoc to the party structures and internal unity,” she disclosed.

She debunked allegation that the state is being put up for sale, rather Nasarawa stands to benefit more from the company and also from Sule’s wealth of experience and connections.
“This is a super win for the state and its people. We are quite fortunate and be rest assured that the great works of the incumbent would be consolidated and strengthens,” Hajia Maimuna Nuhu stated.
Meanwhile, front-line opposition parties, APGA and PDP have zoned their respective gubernatorial seat to Nasarawa-North. While the former minister of information, Hon. Labaran Maku is touting the APGA ticket, the PDP has a retinue of aspirants to pick from.
The PDP line up includes former minister of state for the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Solomon Ewuga, former Minister of Information, Sen. Patricia Akwashiki, Deputy Governor under Almakura ‘s first tenure, Hon. Danish Luka, Sen. Philip Aruwa Gyunka and Representative Dave Umbagadu respectively.
