House investigative committee commences hearing on Maina’s case

By Gbenga Odunsi, Yemi Esho, Abuja

The House of Representatives ad-hoc committee set up to investigate the disappearance, return and reinstatement of the embattled former Minister of chairman of the Presidential Pension Task Force Team, Abdulrasheed Maina has commenced hearing.

Among those being quizzed are the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Interior Abubakar Magaji and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Oyo–Ita Winifred Ekanem among others.

The HoS said there are procedures to follow to reinstate any officer back into the civil service while she insisted that she was never part of the reinstatement. But the permanent secretary disagreed with the Oyo-Ita saying she endorsed the letter of Maina’s return.

While arguing their cases separately, the Minister of Finance and the Accountant General said the Federal Government is not paying Maina salaries and the last time he collected salary was back in 2013. The CG Immigration however noted that Maina has not been passing through the borders which has make it difficult to affect his arrest.

The acting chairman of the EFCC however noted that some of the assets recovered from Maina have been confiscated by the Federal Government and are being managed by a reputable firm. The EFCC boss properties confiscated are in Abuja and Kaduna. The DG DSS however stated that Maina’s disappearance was possible because he was not on watch list and could not be arrested.
