FG, IGP Conspiring Against Benue Indigenes – Lawmakers

By Ali Maha

The Federal government and the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris have been accused of high level conspiracy against Benue State and its people.

The allegation was made in a press conference called to intimate the world on the state of the on-going Fulani herdsmen’s killing and maiming of Benue people by the Benue Caucus in the National Assembly.

In the conference paper signed by the caucus members and titled “Why the Grand Conspiracy Against Benue must fail”, the caucus said it is expedient to let the world know of the Grand conspiracy and the orchestrated plot by some top and unscrupulous security officials of the Federal Government to manipulate the nation’s security apparatus for the purposes of emasculating the people and government of Benue State in order to sustain the killings by herdsmen.

According to the paper, the partisanship  of the Nigerian Police in the on-going herders/farmer’s  imbroglio  that has led to wanton killing of innocent lives and destruction of property by herdsmen became glaring when the Police Public Relations Officer, MrJimohMoshood corroborating the IGP and the Minister of Defence, Brig. Gen. Mansur Muhammed Dan-Ali’s earlier position on the  matter where they both took sides with the killer herdsmen in declaring that the ceaseless killings of people of Benue State was caused by the implementation of the open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment law enacted by the Benue State House of Assembly, appeared in a TV Talk Show “SUNRISE” on Channels TV of Tuesday February 6, 2018 to make unguarded statements and ascribe unprintable names to the person and office of the executive  Governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom.

The Caucus therefore alleged that the PPRO who called for the resignation of the governor whom he accused of failing to protect the lives and property of his people was acting the script of his master.

The Caucus said that it’s undemocratic for a public official to openly call for the resignation of a democratically elected governor who has done nothing wrong other than exercising his statutory responsibilities.

According to the statement, that the Minister of Defence, the IGP and the PPRO collectively and collaboratively criticised Benue and Governor Ortom in unison for protecting their rights cannot be said to and be a coincidence” but a calculated attempt to rubbish the image of our state and subject our governor to ridicule and this can aggravate the fragile security situation in Benue State.

The caucus however debunked the insinuations of the Hon. Minister of Defence and the IGP that the on-going pogrom in Benue State is the resultant effect of the Anti-Grazing Law or any communal clash but a crafted plot by the killer herdsmen working with some partisan and shameless security officials to perpetrate the genocidal crime against the peace loving people of Benue.

The caucus reiterated their unalloyed commitment to support the state government in the implementation of the Anti-Grazing Law and the enforcement and enactment of the Ranches Law in Benue State threatening that no amount of intimidation can stop them.

The caucus  called for the resignation of the PPRO with immediate effect and where he refuses to resign the IGP should see to it as an obligation that he is sacked without delay as his unguarded utterances is an indictment to the police as a willing tool in the insidious  plan to annihilate  and decimate the Benue population, ruin the social and economic life of the people and ultimately bring to their knees the ever courageous, industrious hard-working and law abiding citizens of the State for the benefit of marauding Fulani herdsmen.

The caucus  further disclosed that the killings  by the herdsmen in Benue is still going on as just last week ten people were killed  in Guma Local  Government  Area and one other in Logo LGA with several others injured and displaced from their homes.

They therefore called on the FG and the Police to as a matter of urgency do the needful by putting an end to the callous activities of herdsmen in Benue in particular and other parts of the country.
