The Nigerian Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Barrister Adebayo Shittu, is reported to have wooed and taken over a 20-year old girlfriend of one of his aides in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital.

Informed credible sources within the Minister’s camp in Ibadan told AljazirahNigeria that this has generated bad blood between the minister and his assistant who is not happy with the development.

The said minister’s aide ((name withheld) is also a lawyer by profession and was working at the minister’s Law Chambers before and even after the appointment of Barrister Shittu by President Muhammadu Buhari in December, 2015.

Investigations further revealed that the 20-year-old lady (name also withheld) had been having an affair with the minister’s aide for more than two years, and she regularly paid visits to the minister’s law firm before the latter formally relocated to Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, as a result of his appointment as a member of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

It was reliably gathered that the minister although he had not directly indicated interest in the girl then had nevertheless been impressed with the lady’s dressing whenever she paid her boyfriend a visit at the chambers.

It is believed that he recently approached her for a ‘better relationship’ which he promised would lead to Nikkah, according to Muslims marriage rites.

Investigations further showed that the secret Nikkah, which was held a few weeks ago in Oyo, Oyo township, with few people in attendance, held under the cover of political homage to one of the leaders in the town.

Before the secret Nikkah was held, an impeccable source told AljazirahNigeria that the minister, having realized that he had offended his aide by the nuptial summoned an emergency meeting, where he pleaded with the aide and the other staff working in his Chamber to forgive him.

It was further leant that the minister told them that he would want them to ask for two requests each to show his remorse.

According to an inside source privy to the details of the meeting, “the two young lawyers present asked him to open their Chambers for them and repair their cars, and the minister promptly said he would accede to the requests, but as am speaking with you, he has not done anything for them, and the secret Nikkah took place recently in Oyo town. But he has bought a house (duplex) worth N10 million for the lady at Bodija in Ibadan now.’’

The source said many are even saying that the minister may have moved fast not to flout Islamic injunctions of not marrying more than four wives as he is said to have four wives already.

“He is believed to have divorced his last wife and sent her packing with her three-month-old baby shortly before the marriage took place”, he said.

AljazirahNigeria could not however verify this claim.

The medium could not reach the minister directly to obtain his reaction.

But when contacted, the Special Adviser to the Minister on Media, Mr. Victor Oluwadamilare, laughed off the allegations saying they were the figment of someone’s imagination and should be ignored.

He denied it, attributing it to ‘mere rumour to tarnish the minister’s image.’

“It is the handiwork of some few individuals, who are jittery of the minister’s sterling performance in just one year in office. Some disgruntled elements are at it again to smear senseless rumour, and will go to any length to achieve their devilish aims,’’ he said.

The spokesman further added that media practitioners should not allow themselves to be used by selfish politicians.

However, sources within the minister’s camp said all is not well now, as the latter was finding it difficult to amicably resolve the incident between him and his aide.
