CBN establishes N6bn business school at ABU

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has established a business school valued at N6 billion at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Kaduna State.

The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Ibrahim Garba, who disclosed this at the 40th convocation ceremony, which took place at the main campus, Samaru, Zaria, recalled that the business school took off as a faculty, covering Accounting, Business Administration, and Economics Departments.

The development, according to him, gave room for expansion of the departments and introduction of related academic programmes.

He further said that the Faculty of Medicine had been transformed into College of Health Sciences, headed by a Provost, stressing that the college had already taken off with four faculties of Basic Clinical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Basic Medical Sciences and Allied Health Sciences courses such as Bachelor of Dental Surgery, Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences and B.Sc. Medical Radiography, beginning from 2017/2018 academic session.

The vice-chancellor also explained that the university had introduced e-learning methodology in academic delivery to tackle the rapid growth in the number of students, even as he noted that the e-learning was in line with development in pedagogy and technology.

The Group Managing Director of NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Kachalla-Baru, expressed satisfaction with the performance of some 50 graduating students, who obtained a first class degree in different fields.

He said that NNPC had been at the forefront of fostering qualitative education in Nigeria, and subsequently awarded NNPC’s scholarship to Ph.D. Level to the best overall student, Al-Amin Bashir-Bugaje, a graduate of Electrical Engineering Department with Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.93 points.

In his remarks, the Chancellor of the university, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, said: “Since my installation as the Chancellor of this university on November 1, 2015, I have found this university to be vibrant and promising. It has enormous human and material resources and a number of specialized research institutes, which are particularly agro-based.

“These include the Institute for Agricultural Research, National Animal Production Research Institute and National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services. The institutes had over the years made significant contributions to the agricultural sector of the national economy.”
