Game of wits as el-Rufai, Sani re-strategize ahead of 2019 political war
By Gaaden Puun

With all the seven local government council chairmen of the All Progressive
Congress, APC, in the Kaduna Central senatorial district, adopting an indefinite
expulsion of Senator Shehu Sani, the battle may be set for the "real political war"
of Kaduna state in 2019.

AljazirahNigeria recalls that Nasir el-Rufai, a Hausa/Fulani man from Zaria and
Senator Shehu Sani, a Gbagyi human rights activist from Kaduna central have been at
loggerheads following the governorship primaries of the APC in which the former won
in 2014.
However, the right activist's supporters, believe their leader was "robbed" of the
guber ticket by the powers that be.
The battle line was drawn with both camps, assembling their arsenal for a tense
political battle.

Comrade Shehu, as he is popularly known amongst the masses in Kaduna, had faulted
both the emergence of el-Rufai and his subsequent policies.

In fact, the two keep clashing on policy issues almost at any given opportunity.
Of course, as the state governor, el-Rufai was able to mobilise party machineries
to hand over an eleven months suspension to the lawmaker last year.

Sani on his part, chided the governor for mediocrity, saying, the governor's policies were
against the poor masses APC manifesto represents.
The lawmaker who condemned his suspension by his party, told AljazirahNigeria recently that
"el-Rufai  is a dubious progressive and a bogus representation of President
Muhammadu Buhari's change".
" If he (the governor) represent change, then Mobutu, Batista, Kamuzu Banda also
represent change".

Senator Sani said "my indefinite suspension by Nasir el-Rufai through controlled,
induced and misinformed self acclaimed APC executive, and the paper upon it was
written is a worthless and as useless as the sanitary papers in the toilet of his
official residence"
Not yet done, the right activist accused the governor of looking elsewhere while the
Southern Kaduna massacre escalated, kidnapping shifted to the state while it numbero
uno citizen battled an individual for party supremacy.

To teach him a huge political lesson, el-Rufai allegedly moved fast last November
30th, 2016, twenty four hours the expiration of the senator's six months suspension,
to get the LG chairmen to dish out an indefinite expulsion.

The APC chairmen of Birnin Gwari, Igabi, Giwa, Rigachukun, Kaduna north and Kaduna
south respectively, forwarded a sanctioned letter to it state executives for
confirmation and onward to the party's National Working Committee for final

AljazirahNigeria investigations reveal that the ongoing rift may not be unconnected with
the permutation for the 2019 guber race in which Sani has an eye for.
Governor el-Rufai, is said to have tipped his special adviser on special duties,
Alhaji Uba Sani who is from the same central district as Senator Shehu Sani, for the
APC ticket.
By Kaduna state political zoning arrangement, the governorship slot in 2019 will
purely be an affair of Kaduna central as both the north and the southern zones have
ruled. The ex governor Ramalan Yaro and incumbent el-Rufai are from the South where the
late governor Patrick Yakowa hails from.
