2019 Elections: APC, PDP secretly nominates candidates

By Gaaden Puun, Abuja

The Supreme Court verdict that restored powers back to the Senator Ahmed Makarfi of the major opposition People Democratic Party, PDP may come with casualties, but it creates a new political horizon to the 2019 gladiators in Nigeria, AljazirahNigeria has learnt.

AljazirahNigeria whom has been following happenings at the National secretariat of the PDP reveals that the caucus of the party are opened to its run-away leaders including its 8 years former vice president Atiku Abubakar, Senate president Dr Bukola Saraki, Speaker
Yakubu Dogara, and a lot of those who are not satisfied with the politics of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC.

Hours after the pronouncement of victory by the Nigeria’s apex court, the PDP National Working Committee made up of serving governors, national executives officers, as well as the National Assembly leaders, declared amnesty to its erring members including Senator Ali Modu Sheriff’s group.

Although Alimodu Sheriff’s group had denied any formal invitation to the party, it insisted it needs no amnesty, and further decried the PDP was handed to a club of looters. While the Sheriff camp’s regime lasted, it revealed that it smells a presidential romance between the Makarfi’s group with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Investigation further reveals that Atiku, whose political popularity has refused to wan off since the outbreak of the restructuring debate, is being backed by political leaders from the Southwest, Southeast, South-South, and lately, the Middle Belt region.

The Afenifere, the South-South Assembly, the Ohaneze, and the Middle belt are championing the Restructuring Debate with Atiku as key for implementation. Atiku’s undoing politically remains his sour relationships with his former boss, ex-president Obasanjo.

AljairahNigeria reliably gathered that ex-military president, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, Gen. T.Y Danjuma, Gen. Abubakar Abdulsalami, ex-president Goodluck Jonathan and a host of Igbo politicians are said to have resolved to back any northern presidential candidate with the aim to implement restructuring, which they all believe is the most political campaign issue for the 2019
general elections.

The APC under president Muhammadu Buhari and acting president Prof Yemi Osinbajo has kicked against the restructuring in whatever form. Prof Osinbajo was the first to kick with harsh reactions from his kinsmen, the Afenifere, while the north seems divided on the matter.

A source close to Senate president revealed to AljazirahNigeria that the Senate and House of Representatives leaderships are in support of the Northeast to produce the next president of Nigeria, and that any political party that rewards it presidential candidate with a ticket stands a good chance of its votes in 2019.

A close source revealed to AljazirahNigeria that president Muhammadu Buhari, who is battling with ill health, may be grooming the Kaduna state governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai to succeed him. El-Rufai is currently battling ex Kano governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso who enjoys the backing of some powerful northern emirs to get the northern interest to deputise Osinbajo should any unpleasant thing happens.

AljazirahNigeria reliably gathered that Babangida and T Y Danjuma are lobbying their ex colleagues in the military including Obasanjo, Senator David Mark as well as the National Leader of APC, Senator Bola Tinubu for a political understanding.

By the PDP new permutations, Atiku has the clout to dismantle the ruling APC and teach the Osinbajo /Rufai, Kwankwaso their political lessons for their money in  2019.

A source from Wadata House reveals that “a pull out Atiku with his co travellers including serving governors, ministers, lawmakers, will create a huge wound in and this will take APC several years to recover”.
